Inspiring the Next Generation

Inviting an expert in STEM as a guest speaker for my high school students can be an invaluable opportunity to inspire and ignite their passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By sharing their real-world experiences, achievements, and challenges, the expert can captivate the students’ minds and encourage them to explore these fields further. The speaker’s expertise can shed light on exciting career prospects, cutting-edge innovations, and the power of critical thinking. Through this interaction, students can gain valuable insights, expand their horizons, and be motivated to pursue their dreams with determination and enthusiasm, setting them on a path towards a successful future in STEM.

Resource Repositories

One of the challenges facing physics education in Cambodia is a lack of resources and access to quality education for educators, students in provinces and low-income families. To address this challenge, I created two online resource repositories that cover grade 12 physics content, learning techniques, and undergraduate-graduate level physics content for self-paced learners and for physics educators who want to refresh and sharpen their physics knowledge. Using my knowledge of the content and students, the repositories have been well-curated to benefit learners of all learning abilities. The repositories have been successful, with over 7,500 visitors since October 2022, including international visitors from Thailand. Most importantly, I was very delighted when my students reached out to me saying they passed their Bac II physics exam and were grateful for the resources on the repository.

The Story of Science

As a physics teacher, I add and teach the story of science in my physics curriculum to instill a deeper appreciation for the subject. Understanding the historical context and evolution of scientific ideas helps my students grasp the significance of the concepts they study today. By highlighting the struggles, breakthroughs, and collaborations of great scientists, I inspire curiosity and resilience in my students. Teaching the story of science fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, allowing my students to connect theories to real-world applications. It also nurtures a sense of wonder and awe, fueling their passion for discovery.
